what are the sizes of steerer tube diameter and length of front suspension mtb.?
i want to upgrade my alu frame mtb with new front suspension. though this frame is not up to the mark, the suspension fork it has does not specify the size of steerer tube. i would like to buy a new suspension fork for this frame and later change the whole frame. will this newly bought fork fits in the newer frame that i will buy later? i am under the impression that all aluminium frames have similar head tube size. please suggest
Your impression that all aluminum frames share the same steerer tube size is wrong.
Since you didn't mention the brand or model of frame it will be impossible to give you any information but since you DID say it is not up to the mark it is probably not a good one. This means it could be 1", 1-1/8", 1-1/4", or 1-1/2" diameter. You have to measure it. Length has to do with the size of the frame which also has to be measured.
Keep in mind that the headset also varies depending on the fork diameter and frame type and that these may not be compatible either.
Additionally, even if all this is known one can't simply go out and buy a fork since the travel is also specific to the frame design. For example, if you have an 80mm travel fork now you must keep within the range of 80mm to 100mm due to frame geometry. If you were to buy a new frame that requires a 120mm fork you would have to purchase another new one anyway.
So, I strongly recommend that you live with the shortcomings of your bike for now until you are ready to do a complete upgrade. It will save you much grief and a lot of money.
