Off-Road RC Trucks
Off road RC trucks are quickly becoming a popular pastime for more and more people. As companies continue to produce more advanced versions of these scaled down monster trucks, prices have begun to fall. For a fraction of the cost of earlier models, it is now possible for just about anyone to participate, regardless of budget.
The secret to a great track is to simulate as many different types of terrain as possible. Depending on the capabilities of the vehicle, there are a lot of great choices available. For dry land options, assembling a rock pile is fairly easy without any real expenditure. Rock piles can also be rearranged very easily for a customizable track. Wood piles, made from various sticks and small logs are also a great idea. A few bags of sand from the local hardware are easily converted to dunes that will have even amateur RC drivers throwing dust and catching big air. Challenges like deep mud, swamp, and quicksand are relatively easy to construct with little more than a bucket of water and some patience.
If the owner of an off road RC happens to live in a seasonal climate, there is no need to put it away just because winter has arrived. In fact, snow and ice can be one of the most enjoyable terrains for course construction. Ramps, landing sites, high curves, and moguls are all easily constructed from snow and can provide hours of entertainment. They are also easily rebuilt in the event of circuit damage, and snow is very forgiving for those with a tendency to be more aggressive with their driving style.
The key to any good design is originality. Creative use of common items can define the style and speed of a track. Bricks, plywood ramps, and even sections of old furniture have been used in very resourceful ways. The ability to see beyond the intended use of an item is critical. When constructing a track for off road RC trucks, originality and effort will lead to huge pay-offs. It is relatively easy to walk into a hardware store and buy some good ideas, but the best courses always have their own signature, something that sets them apart from the pack. The best thing about building an original circuit is that it is a project that it is never complete. New additions are limited only by the mind of the creator.
