As long as you connect the cable the same way on both ends, you are fine. Speakers don't actually care, you can wire them either way, depending on what you are doing.
If you get one speaker wrong, the system will be out of phase, which is completely harmless. The only thing is does is sound weird, it won't hurt a thing. It is so harmless, in fact, that some installations actually require it for proper sound reproduction.
So, just make sure that if you connect one to the red terminal at the receiver, connect that same color to the red terminal at the speaker.
If, however, you are referring to one channel's two wires being purple, and the other channel's two wires being white, just try it one way. If it is wrong, connect them the other way.
You can't hurt anything. Speakers just don't care. If it doesn't sound right, try it the other way.
The other answerer is correct with his suggestion for using the battery. If you can't figure out which channel is which after it goes through the wall, just connect all your speakers, and use the battery at the other end to see which one is where. Then, simply connect the cables to the receiver. The battery will cause the speaker to thump once, thus telling you that you are holding the wire connected to the... let's just say the left surround speaker. Then, you just find the left surround terminals on the back of the receiver and connect it.
