Lexus has chopped off two doors and the roof from the IS250 to create the IS250C, due to arrive in Europe in the summer of 2009, and the U.S. shortly thereafter.

The 2009 Lexus IS250C features a three-piece aluminum roof that retracts in a “world’s fastest” 20 seconds, and features revised overhangs 15mm (front) and 55mm (rear) longer than the sedan, a new fog lamp design and a rising beltline that integrates into the revised haunches. The IS250C’s rear end leaves a lot to be desired, with an odd assortment of angles terminating into a set of awkwardly placed LED taillights. With the top up, nothing seems to seamlessly blend together, looking like an ill-advised amalgamation of the outgoing SC430 and BMW 335i. Inside, thing get mildly better – in typical staid Lexus tradition – with a set of rollover hoops for the rear seat passengers, a 12-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and a speed sensitive climate control system that will boost the heat during open air jaunts. Mitsubishi will use the Moscow Auto Salon (August 26 – September 7) to perform the public debut of its new Pajero Sport. The SUV model that will carry various names depending on the market (Montero Sport in South America, Nativa in Latin America and Challenger in Australia) will not be sold in Central / Western Europe or in North America.

Based on a new ladder frame, the 2009 Pajero Sport will be powered by a choice of three engines: 2.5-liter and 3.2-liter diesel units and a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline unit. The new model will use Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD system, also used in the Pajero SUV, which transmits drive torque to all four wheels on all types of surfaces. Buyers can opt for a 5-passenger or a 7-passenger version, both of which feature water-repellent seats and a waterproof luggage compartment floor.

The new Pajero Sport will be available in selected regions such as Russia, the ASEAN area, the Middle East, Latin America and Oceania starting in the fall this year.

Small cars are back en vogue thanks to lofty fuel prices. As a result, Toyota is completing is Yaris lineup in the U.S. by finally adding the 5-door liftback to its list of offerings for the 2009 model year. Available in other markets (including Canada) since inception, the 5-door Yaris occupies roughly the same footprint as the 3-door, but is a lot more practical if you’re going to be carrying backseat passengers frequently. Its powertrain will mirror the other Yaris offerings, and we’re assuming it’ll get the optional sport appearance package available on the 3- and 4-doors. Those sport models, by the way, get a new body kit and interior color schemes for MY09. Other ‘09 changes include the availability of cruise control on the hatch, as well as the addition of standard front side airbags and rear side curtains. Toyota hasn’t released pricing or photos of the U.S. spec Yaris 5-door yet. We imagine the former won’t stray too far off from the 3-door. In terms of photos, the gallery below shows you the base UK-market 5-door. Move the steering wheel over and you’ve pretty much got it. At least now when I catch the occasional episode of Psych, I won’t be muttering that the blue 5-door Yaris the Santa Barbara-based lead characters drive isn’t available in the U.S.

In the gallery below, you’ll find the full brochure for the 2009 Dodge Challenger, and yeah, there’s some good stuff to be found in there. We’re particularly fond of the R/T Classic package (above), which gets a coat of B5 Blue, 20″ torq-thrust lookalikes, T/A-style stripes, and the old-school script Challenger badge on the front fender. Unfortunately, while Chrysler was cooking up the retro badging, they neglected to order up some nouveau Fratzogs to really finish off the look, so the Ram-head shield sits on the hood, instead. Too bad. As for the rest of the car? Badass. There are some pretty cool stripe and wheel options to be had regardless of trim level, plus what’s sure to be a bevy of aftermarket parts from Mopar and other third parties. Finally, Chrysler’s offering a factory R/T Track Pack that, in its most aggressive form, combines the 6-speed Tremec with 20″ wheels and a 3.91 rear axle ratio. Bring money for tires. Ford is the king of leveraging its heritage to keep the Mustang interesting. Chrysler has a shot at doing the same thing here with the Challenger. From the looks of things, it’s off to a good start. That R/T Classic? Yeah, we could roll like that.

We’d seen spy shots of Cadillac’s halo roadster before, and today, GM officially announced the updates made to its luxury brand’s halo vehicle. The range has been winnowed down to the Platinum and the supercharged V-Series. Look for the V-Series hood on all models and revised front and rear fascias with unique grillework for each trim level. The Platinum (above) wears the CTS egg-crate look, while the $100K V-Series presumably soldiers on with the mesh visage that is the V signature. New fender vents have been added, and a number of tweaks have been made to the cars’ interiors, including Alcantara headliners, new instrumentation (say good-bye to the Bulgari-designed gauges), and a leather cut-and-sew treatment on the instrument panel. Drivers will also now get Bluetooth connectivity with the car’s OnStar package. Look for the new XLRs to hit showrooms in July. Whether you see many on your local streets is another matter; XLRs are a bit of a rarity in most neighborhoods.

We knew that the new Audi S4 was due to be unveiled within the next six months, but CAR was able to confirm that the supercharged sled will make an official appearance at the Paris Motor Show this September. As previously reported, the new S4 will ditch its 4.2-liter V8 in favor of a new supercharged 3.0-liter V6 producing around 350 hp – a few ponies more than the current S4’s output.

CAR got the details about the new S4 while running the twin-clutch-equipped S5 through its paces, and is able to confirm that the S-badged sedan will benefit from the same seven-speed gearbox, with shifts taking place in 200 ms. Naturally, the S4 will be equipped with quattro all-wheel-drive, and sales will begin in the UK in early 2009, with wagon and convertible variants following thereafter.

As for the future of the RS4, Audi isn’t confirming any specs yet, but they’re confident that when the new M3-fighter hits the streets in 2010, the new S-tronic dua
