At this past weekend’s Indy Bash event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Chevy re-(multiply by ten times)-introduced the new Camaro to thousands of GM fans. Among those to answer GM’s callings were the folks over at Camaro5 forums that happily put their cameras to work. Aside from the Camaro RS and the Transformer Movie Bumblebee, GM also brought to Indy the top-off-the-line Camaro SS that’s equipped with a 422HP 6.2-liter V8. In this new set of pictures from the crew at Camaro5, we get to see more details of the SS’ two-tone interior with the overly tacky plastic red panels reminding us that bad taste has no boundaries. Follow the jump to check out the image gallery. Continued

Enough with the spy pics and the semi-official prototype shots; here are the first official images of the long-awaited Chevrolet Camaro production version. Although the car depicted here is wearing an eye-popping RS badge, the guys at Autoexpress’ Cartribe blog support that the Camaro will come in LS, LT and SS trims.
The same source states that the 2010 Camaro will be available with a 296 Hp 3.6-liter V6 engine or a 416 Hp 6.2-liter V8, combined with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. The Camaro features an all-independent suspension setup and a StabiliTrak stability control system that promises to keep an eye on the coupe’s buttocks. Braking power in the SS will be provided by 4-pot Brembo brakes while it is also reported that the coupe’s 1,700 kg (3,750 lbs) weight will be split 52% up front and 48% at the rear.
Specs aside, we also get the first picture of the Camaro’s interior which unlike the one found in the Challenger, bears no resemblances to other models of the Group. Hopefully, GM will drop the embargo and upload more pictures and information during the day. See images after the jump. Continued

Chevrolet will unveiling the production version of the new Camaro sometime later this summer, but high gas prices appear to have killed plans for at least one of the anticipated models. The Camaro lineup was to have been topped off by a Z/28 model powered by a 500+ hp supercharged V8. With the national average price of gasoline at $4.16 last week, the prospects for an LS8 powered super-Camaro looked bad. Instead the Camaro will be topped off with a 400 hp SS model. Even that one may end up having a limited lifespan if gas prices keep climbing. GM has acknowledged that it is examining alternatives like smaller engines with direct injection and turbocharging. A hybrid version will likely turn up at some point as well.

Autobot Bumblebee wasn’t quite himself at the end of Transformers — as in, there were quite a few chunks of him missing. For Transformers 2: Rise of the Fallen, the producers gave Bumblebee a solid buffing out, and he’s returned with a new front spoiler and some stripes. The hood scoop and spoiler — especially seen from the side — give the already bulldog-ish Camaro a nice goose on the badass scale. If this is the treatment that the Z28 will get, we’re all for it.
