Chilean and Brazilian Chevy Vectras

n the beginning we wanted to write about the new Chilean market Chevrolet Vectra but for no particular reason we decided to spend some time looking into GM’s global crate of nameplates. Now, pay attention because you may get lost in translation: in Europe, GM’s execs scraped the Vectra name as it was considered synonymous with “boring” in favor for the more snazzy “Insignia”. In Chili, the current Chevy Vectra which is the same car as the outgoing European Opel / Vauxhall Vectra will be physically replaced by the Insignia but for some reason, the new mid-size sedan will retain the same name as before. Chevrolet Camaro Black Teased Ahead of SEMA 2008

Although no information has been released yet, we can see in these sketches of the Camaro “Black”, some distinguishing body modifications such as front bumper lower splitter, glowing red angel eye headlamps, side skirts, monolithic 5-spoke rims and rear bumper fascia with diffuser and rectangular exhaust tips.

Other mechanical and body bits being upgrade, as seen in the videos include exhaust headers, Hurst shifter, big brake upgrade, suspension, fuel injectors, full paint job with custom vinyl graphics and something with the interior. Stay tuned. Continued

GM’s E-Flex vehicle to be called Electra in the UK?

Here in the U.S. market, the name Electra was used on big Buick sedans for more than four decades but it hasn’t appeared in a new car showroom since 1990. It looks like the Electra could be be making a comeback soon, but not in America. It turns out that Vauxhall, the brand that GM uses to sell right-hand drive Opels in the UK, filed a trademark application back in June for the Vauxhall Electra. GM officials have acknowledged previously that both the Chevy Volt and an Opel badged E-Flex vehicle would be offered in Europe. The Opel/Vauxhall vehicle will likely be based on the Flextreme concept that was shown at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. The Electra (if that’s what it’s called) will likely debut sometime in 2011. Saturn is also expected to get a version of the Flextreme here in the U.S., and it will be interesting to see if it revives the Electra name here. Continued

Canadian Pre-Order Sales for 2010 Camaro start on Oct.16

 A few days after the Camaro went officially on sale in the States, GM of Canada announced that starting Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, Chevy dealers across the country will also begin accepting customer pre-orders. Production is scheduled to begin in February 2009 at GM’s Oshawa, Ontario Car Assembly Plant, with dealership deliveries beginning immediately afterwards. Canadian pricing and specifications for the 2010 Camaro will be released in the following weeks, but just so you can get an idea, in the U.S. the sticker for the V6-powered LS starts at $22,995 US while the price for the V8-powered SS has been set at $30,995 U.S. Continued

2010 Camaro Prices Announced, V6 Starts from $22,995, V8 from $30,995

GM has released pricing for its all-new 2010 Camaro as customer ordering opened today, Monday October 13. The 2010 Camaro starts at $22,995 MSRP for the V6-powered LS model, and $30,995 for the V8-powered Camaro SS with both prices including a $750 destination charge. Production will begin in February 2009 with first deliveries expected to hit dealer lots shortly after. Continued

GM to Shut Down Wisconsin SUV Plant Earlier than Expected

In response to rapidly declining full-size SUV sales and the ongoing economic crisis, GM announced on Monday that it will not wait until late 2010 to close its Janesville, Wisconsin assembly plant as it had originally announced. Instead, the troubled American automaker has decided to shut down the factory bythe end of the year. The Wisconsin plant employs around 1,200 workers and it assembles the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL large SUVs. Continued

Chevy to Open 2010 Camaro Order Book on Monday, Oct.13

Not that we haven’t seen the 2010 Camaro Coupe’s specifications, packages and available options before (thanks to a series of leaks), but this time its official as Chevrolet uploaded the Camaro’s buyers guide on its dedicated website as it gets ready to greet customers on Monday, October 13th. Chevy’s dealers across the U.S. will be able to put your order in for the 2010 Camaro Coupe but bear in mind that you’ll have to be patient as the first cars won’t be arriving before spring 2009.
