We got a pretty good look of the rear three-quarter view of the production Fisker Karma on Tuesday, but that was the only image we could find at the time of the new solar-roofed extended-range electric vehicle. It seems that the front of the production Karma is the most important to see, since the mustachioed grille is arguably the controversial styling feature, so we managed to get an image from the new automaker that shows off its newly-reworked face as well. We also get an early look at lies beneath - an aluminum space frame chassis.
Up front, that intake does appear to be just a wee bit larger in production form, and we think everything looks just peachy. In fact, we’ve always thought that the low-slung Fisker sedan was a looker. We can also clearly see that the GM-sourced 2.0L direct-injected and turbocharged Ecotec engine will exhale through ports just aft of the front wheels. Other than that, everything looks just as we expected based on the styling buck that was shown off in Detroit last January. California’s Fisker Automotive has confirmed today that its upcoming Karma plug-in hybrid will be shown for the first time in full production trim at next month’s Detroit Auto Show. With only minor design enhancements made to the exterior of the original concept, the production Karma, seen here for the first time, retains the extreme proportions and sculptured look of the show car.
“We are very excited to be bringing the Fisker Karma back to NAIAS,” said Fisker Automotive CEO Henrik Fisker. “In the year since we debuted the Karma, the reception we’ve received has been tremendous. I’m proud to announce at this time that we are already sold out on the car until mid-2010.” With a base price of $87,900, the environmentally friendly luxury saloon is scheduled to begin delivery in November next year.

Fisker has announced their new plug-in hybrid sedan called the Karma will use GM’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder which produces 260 horsepower. The engine will be used to generate electricity for the batteries after the hybrid has been driven past its 50 mile electric-only range. GM currently uses the engine in the Pontiac Solstice GXP and the Saturn Sky Red Line.

The Big 3 may be laying off workers left, right and center, but at least one start up is moving into town to swoop up some skilled workers. That start-up is Fisker Automotive, the aspiring luxury-hybrid automaker headed up by noted designed Henrik Fisker. The new facility is based in a leased property in Pontiac, Michigan, in suburban Detroit, and will help Fisker’s engineers get the Karma, first shown in concept form at the last Detroit show and ambitiously gearing up for a production preview at the next one.
