2009 Ford Mustang Revealed

Ford, Ford Mustang, Market News

Ford has released images and details on the 2009 Mustang that’s pretty much a carry over the 2008 model, which is quite logical as the American carmaker gears up for the new 2010 Mustang that will be unveiled at the LA Auto Show in November. The most important additions for 2009 is the availability of the factory-installed glass roof option on both the V-6 and GT models for $1,995 and the return of the “Warriors in Pink” package designed to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure. As Ford is celebrating the Mustang’s 45th Anniversary this year, all V6 and GT versions will feature special fender badging. The only new package for the 2009 model is the GT Security Package that includes an active anti-theft system and wheel locking kit while another small change is the addition of a new Brilliant Silver clearcoat metallic colour.

Ford Mustang AV8R: One-Off 400Hp ‘Stang to be Auctioned

 Ford, Ford Mustang

A one-of-a-kind aviation-themed Ford Mustang dubbed AV8R will be unveiled at the EAA AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin at the end of July. Though this is not widely known, Ford’s official line is that the classic pony car was named after the famous World War II P-51 Mustang fighter. The Mustang AVR8 will be auctioned at the show on July 31, with all proceeds benefiting the EAA’s Gathering of Eagles program that provides scholarships for young people interested in aviation careers. Developed by the Ford Racing team, the aviation-inspired Mustang is based on the 2009 Mustang GT with the glass roof. Painted in satin silver matte with black gloss and red accents, the AVR8 features the Air Force star in the glass; special front and rear fascias; integrated spoiler; and Shelby GT500 wheels. Inside the one-off ‘Stang gets “bomber jacket” leather inserts and trim panels along with a “Bullitt” aluminum instrument panel appliqué and shift knob. Continued

Mustang is above the law

We happen to know a thing or two about impersonating an officer, having reviewed a 2008 Dodge Charger Cop Car and been detained by Dearborn police for our troubles. Our tester looked a bit too much the like the real deal, with a white-on-black paint job, working light bar and even a set of bumper bars. Thus, we can sympathize with Jessie Vigil, a Las Vegas resident and disabled Iraq war veteran who transformed his 2007 Mustang into Barricade, the evil Decepticon from the Transformers movie. What would possess a man to turn his Mustang into a movie prop? Well, his 7-year-old son really liked the movie, so now he’s got a full-scale Transformers toy.

Vigil created his cop car the right way by first contacting the local authorities and asking if his project were legal. While the Chief Deputy District Attorney discouraged him from doing it, there was nothing on the books that expressly forbade it. The only thing the law prohibits is impersonating an officer, and it was decided Vigil didn’t fit that description for two reasons. One, the car is a Mustang and apparently Las Vegas police have no Mustangs in their fleet. Two, the police themselves sell their old cruisers without repainting them, so there’s already lots of vehicles running around with white-on-black paint jobs. There are other signs this Decepticon is a dud as well, like the many movie-related vinyl graphics and the totally fake light bar.

While most locals know the car by now, authorities are still concerned that drivers on the interstate might get confused and ask Vigil for help. If we learned anything from Michael Bay’s opus last summer, it’s don’t ask a Mustang cop car for help. They’re the evil ones. Thanks for the tip, SwissFreek!
