GOLDFISH project: World’s first solar powered submarine

What could be the better way other than the luxury submarines for billionaires (who wish to rule the seas like Captain Nemo) to submerge in luxury? Very much like the luxury yachts, the luxury submarines are catching the fetish of the billionaires of the society. A few days back, we were talking about the possibility for the superyachts of the rich to go green with the solar sail and now, we have a solar powered submarine. Swiss energy company, BKW has unveiled its GOLDFISH project, which stands for the world’s first solar powered submarine. The submarine will be powered by a floating solar array. Sharing the looks of a water Lilly, the floating solar platform has a central hub, surrounded by five satellites fitted with solar panels. The solar array will float on 300 square meters of area and will produce 30 kilowatts of electricity.

With a weight of up to 80 tons, the 30 meter long, 10 meter high submarine accommodates 24 people and is able to go down a maximum of 300 meters under water. A solar-powered shuttle boat will bring the tourists from the shore to the platform for the submarine ride. BMK expects to use a similar concept to power the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Anyway, they are currently looking for investors for the GOLDFISH project, which is estimated to cost about US $8.85 million.

When I think about the mystery of 100 luxury subs lurking around the Seven Seas, I find the Goldfish solar powered marine really a strange concept. Folks like Russian oil billionaire Roman Abramovich would never want a submarine, which could be easily spotted by the masses, thanks to the floating solar array. But still, I am all praise for everything that cares for Mother Nature.

VW Rabbit is the new top-researched car on Gaywheels.com

gaywheels,gay,vw

This quarter, the Volkswagen Rabbit knocks the Toyota Yaris out of the top spot on Gaywheels.com’s list of top-researched cars. The Yaris, which had hung on to the numero uno spot for the last twelve months, dropped to third place as the VeeDub managed to snag the second spot as well with the hardtop-convertible Eos, which is also a chick car. Making their first appearances on the list are the Volvo C30 at number nine and the Mazda 3 at the tenth spot.

Interestingly, Joe LaMuraglia from Gaywheels.com points out, “60% of the vehicles on the most-researched list are hatchbacks and four of those six have a MSRP starting at under $16K.” You’ll also see that the entire list, which is available after the jump, is populated with gas-sippers.

Note too that each vehicle on the Most-Researched list is offered by a gay-friendly brand — based on corporate policies for offering domestic-partner benefits to employees in the U.S.

Comments, as always, are welcome. Please remember to keep ‘em clean.

New York Auto Show 2008: Ferrari 2008 612 Scaglietti

Ferrari previously announced their One to One personalization program back at the Geneva Motor Show a few weeks ago and now it’s coming to North America. One to One is for those who just can’t settle for an “off the rack” Ferrari, as if there is such a thing, yet the program allows purchasers of the new 2008 612 Scaglietti to have their new toys tailored to their whims.

Beginning with the Park Avenue store in New York this week customers can work with a specialist to select the materials and accessories they want in their 612 to create a truly bespoke Italian exotic. Once the desired combinations have been chosen, the cars will be assembled in a dedicated corner of the Maranello factory. Along with the usual shrieking V-12, the latest edition of the 612 includes Ferrari’s new electrochromic roof and SuperFast electro-hydraulic shifted gearbox. If you have to ask the cost… just peruse the gallery and drool.
