Porsche Cayenne V6 Diesel Receives Power Boost and Aero Kit from Techart

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Following its debut at the Geneva Salon earlier this year, Porsche tuning specialist Techart has released new details on its souped-up Cayenne V6 Diesel. The German company’s comprehensive tuning program for Stuttgart’s first-ever production diesel model covers everything from engine and chassis conversions to interior and aerodynamic styling upgrades with buyers being able to buy Techart’s Cayenne as new or add the kit to existing vehicles.
Beginning with the engine, Techart’s power kit boosts the output of the Cayenne’s 3.0-litre diesel from 240HP to 290HP while peak torque rises from 550Nm to 630Nm (465 lb-ft) at 2,200 rpm, with more than 500Nm being available from around 1,100 rpm to beyond 4,000 rpm.

The tuner claims that while 0 to 60mph sprint time drops from 8.3 seconds to 7.7 seconds, CO2 emissions and fuel consumption on the combined cycle remain unchanged at 244g/km and 30.4mpg UK (9.3lt/100 km or 25.3mpg US) respectively.

New Volkswagen Tiguan R Line

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Volkswagen will be launching a spicier looking version of its Tiguan SUV in the UK this summer. Designed and built by the firm’s Individual division, the R Line model features visual changes over the standard Tiguan through a sporty package but no increase in power. The basis for the new R Line is the Sport model which has been adorned with a body-colored front splitter sitting below the front bumper along with a unique matt chrome grille section and blistered wheel arches that surround new R Line 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels fitted with 255/40 tires.
There’s also a set of subtle body-color sill extensions complete with matt chrome highlights fitted into the new rear bumper that comes with a small diffuser element. Finally, a small spoiler sits at the top of the rear window to complete the new look.

For the interior, VW Individual equipped the Tiguan R Line with a new flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel joined by aluminium pedals and trim plus a set of contoured sports seats complete with ‘R’ logos New R Line. Furthermore, a two-zone climate control is also fitted as standard.

VW offers the new R Line model with a range of 2.0-litre TDI common rail diesel engines in 140HP and 170HP outputs as well as a 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 200HP. Volkswagen Golf GTI MkVI

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

Volkswagen, Volkswagen Golf, Europe, Asia, United Kingdom, Germany, UK, Transmission

Perhaps the next best thing after driving a Golf GTI up and down scenic mountain passes is watching a video clip of someone else doing it.

In 1976 the Mk1 Volkswagen Golf GTI was the budget driver’s dream car with its 4-speed gearbox and 81 kW (110 PS) 1.6-litre engine. Today the GTI makes 155kW (210PS) and 280Nm of torque from its 2.0-litre TSI engine. It will go from 0 - 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph). VW says it uses an average of 7.3 litres of fuel per 100km (38.7 mpg UK). Standard issue wheels are 17-inches but there are 18s available as options.

VW is harking back to this icon with the new GTI. Unveiled as a concept to the public for the first time at the 2008 Paris International Motor Show the Mk VI GTI boasts plenty of garb that many bigger more expensive cars cannot match. In styling the car the team kept the original car in mind. The red frame around the outer front grille is typical GTI and sets it apart from “lesser” Golf models. It has single chrome tailpipes on either side, a GTI rear spoiler, a rear air diffuser, an electronic diff lock, smoked taillights and green tinted windows. The brake calipers are painted red.

The GTI moniker appears on the left instead of the right as it was previously done. The car itself is longer and wider, and it looks more muscular as well. The interior features things like stainless steel pedals, radio/ navigation with a touch screen and heated front seats.

In a few days sales of the new 2009 GTI begin in Germany, in Europe within the next couple of weeks, and America and Asia follow towards the end of the summer.

Lamborghini on Estoque Cancelation Rumors: Who Told You We’d Build it in the first Place?

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

In what could be one of the most interesting and at the same time, most confusing press releases we’ve read recently, Lamborghini decided to answer back to the folks over at UK magazine Autocar and all those that reproduced the story on the cancelation/delay of the production version of the Estoque concept that was shown at last autumn’s Paris Show. We remind you that Autocar’s report cited Lamborghini’s head of research and development, Maurizio Reggianni as saying that “the Estoque has been put on ice for the time being”.

New BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo with 214HP and 52.3MPG available in the UK

Monday, March 16th, 2009

BMW 3 Series, BMW, Alpina, Diesel engine, Turbocharger, UK, GenevaMotorShow, Transmission

The new BMW Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo saloon has arrived on UK showroom floors priced at £29,950 when equipped with a manual gearbox and at £31,585 when opted with an automatic transmission. Based on the recently facelifted BMW 3-Series sedan, the Alpina D3 utilizes a modified version of the 123d’s 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine producing an output of 214HP at 4,100 rpm and an M3-beating 450Nm (332 lbs)of torque at 2,000 - 2,500 rpm.
Alpina claims that the D3 Bi-Turbo saloon can reach a top speed of 152mph (245 km/h) while performing the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 6.9 seconds. Not bad at all especially when you take into consideration that manual version returns a combined economy figure (EU cycle) of 52.3mpg UK (that’s 5.4 lt /100km or 43.6 mpg US) with 143 g/km of CO2.

Reports Claim Aston Martin One-77 Supercar NOT Sold Out

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

AstonMartin, AstonMartinOne-77, South Africa, United Kingdom, Automobile, Right- and left-hand traffic, Japan, UK

It would seem that reports suggesting that the Aston Martin upcoming One-77 supercar had already been sold out were highly exaggerated. A trusted AM source of CarAdvice has told the Australian publication that orders are still quite open for those willing to put down the £200,000 deposit needed to secure a spot on the queue.

The confusion around this story came from the fact that Aston had over 100 expressions of interest for the car whose production will be limited to only 77. But a lot of those interests have not translated into cold hard cash, hence the discrepancy between these and actual deposit-motivated orders.

Porsche Cayman Clubsport coming in October

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Porsche, Porsche Cayman, cayman, Autocar, Porsche Boxster, United Kingdom, Weight, UK

Brit buff mag Autocar says that Porsche is readying a lightweight version of the new Cayman, with plans to create a single-make racing series for it as it already does with the 911. The Porsche Cayman Clubsport, as it’ll reportedly be called, will weigh 220 pounds (100 kg) less than the standard-issue car. The weight savings will come via a stripped interior, lighter bodywork and wheels, and a “simplified” lighting system. Engine/transmission changes aren’t expected to be part of the go-fast recipe, but the 314-horsepower six that’s fitted to new Cayman S ought to deliver more than ample punch in the lighter Clubsport. Autocar says that a price premium of £4K is expected over the regular Cayman S, and that the car should arrive in the UK market in October. Porsche finally gives the Cayman S an engine that makes it a legit alternative consideration to the 911, and now it seems ready to turn up the heat even further with a lightweight version.
